Roberto Martinez’s side needed a 3-0 penalty shoot-out victory against Slovenia after a 0-0 in 120 minutes to reach the last eight, with Ronaldo missing a 105th-minute penalty against the impressive Jan Oblak. However, the legendary forward was second time lucky as he succeeded from the spot during shoot-out, perfectly placing his effort under the Atletico Madrid goalkeeper who correctly dived right.

Aged 39 years and 147 days, the Al Nassr attacker became the oldest player to score a penalty in a EURO shoot-out.

On the flip side, France scraped through to the quarter-finals with a 1-0 win against Belgium thanks to a Jan Vertonghen own goal in the 85th minute, the former Tottenham Hotspur defender deflecting a Marcus Thuram shot into Koen Casteels’ goal.

Despite France star-studded attack comprising PSG all-time top goal scorer and newly signed Real Madrid attacker, Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele, and Antoine Griezmann, the 2018 World Cup winners boast a paltry 3 goals scored at Euro 2024, two own goals and a penalty.

Both teams have not been overly convincing at UEFA Euro 2024, however, with a semi-final ticket at stake
