Karim Zito Talks About Pep Guardiola’s Coaching Style : Veteran Ghanaian coach Abdul Karim Zito has openly expressed his appreciation for the coaching methodology employed by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.
The accomplished Ghanaian coach known for his recent triumphs, including guiding the Black Satellites to victory in the 2021 African Championship and leading Dreams FC to MTN FA Cup glory, has expressed his admiration for the coaching style of the Spanish manager.
In an interview with 3Sports on GPL Xpress on TV3, Zito revealed his appreciation for Guardiola’s coaching philosophy, attributing it to his own foundation as a coach. Despite his admiration, Zito playfully admitted to disliking Guardiola’s personality, a sentiment rooted in his allegiance to Real Madrid.
“The person I admire in coaching is Pep Guardiola, but I don’t like him, but I like his philosophy because of where I started my career as a developer.”
Zito went on to explain that his affinity for Guardiola’s coaching style is based on their shared emphasis on development and a strong foundation. The Ghanaian coach acknowledged Guardiola as his coaching role model, particularly in terms of philosophy.
However, Zito light-heartedly added, “I don’t like him maybe because I am Real Madrid; I was a Barcelona fan, but then Ronaldo left, and when he joined Real Madrid, I moved there.”
Despite personal football loyalties, Zito is currently focused on preparing Dreams FC for their CAF Confederations Cup group stage games. Dreams FC is set to face Tunisian side Club Africain in their opening group game at the Stade Hammadi Agrebi on Saturday in the 2023/24 CAF Confederations Cup.
Meanwhile, Guardiola is currently leading the Premier League table with Man City having already won the Treble last season.
