COINCIDENCE : Atsu’s last goal was a free-kick and Kudus Mohammed paid his tribute after scoring a free-kick goal

Kudus Pays Tribute to Atsu : Kudus Mohammed netted his fifteenth goal of the season in all competitions as Ajax spanked Sparta Rotterdam by 4-0 during Week 22 of the Eredivisie on Sunday.

Ajax were winning 3-0 already before the Black Stars midfielder who shone at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar scored a free-kick goal to make it 4-0 for John Heitinga’s side.

Kudus did not really celebrate the goal as he rather run towards the cameras to display “R.I.P Atsu” that was written on an undershirt he was wearing.

Interestingly Atsu’s last professional goal was also a free-kick he scored for Hatyaspor against Kasimpasa on February 5th after which the disastrous earthquake struck across Turkey and Syria.

The mortal remains of the former Ghana international arrived in Ghana on Sunday after he was found dead under the rubble of his collapsed apartment.

Meanwhile the government has promised to give Christian Atsu a befitting burial. Atsu played 65 matches for the Black Stars between 2012 and 2019.

He was voted best player of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations despite the fact that Ghana lost the grand finale on penalties to Ivory Coast.
