Mohamed Polo On Lack of Documentary on Fearsome Five : France had the Magical Square of Jean Tigana , Alan Giresse , Luis Fernandes and Michel Platini , Real Madrid had the BBC of Cristiano Ronaldo , Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale , Al Ahly had the Bermuda Triangle of Emad Moteab , Mohamed Aboutreka and Mohamed Barakat and Hearts of Oak had the “Fearsome Five”.
The “Fearsome Five” were made of Mohammed Polo , Robert Hammond , Peter Lamptey , Mama Acquah and Anas Seidu “Thunderman” who passed away couple of days ago and together they excited Ghanaian soccer fans in the 70s.
“The Fearsome Five was a group of five extremely talented footballers in the Hearts of Oak team. All the five players played for the Ghana national team. So the Fearsome Five in the Hearts of Oak was a team very very interesting to watch and play.
“Yes football is not played by only five players. It was a team and so the team in totality was a very good side with good players from goalkeeper to the number eleven. And even the reserve players who come on to replace are also very good.”

“At that time with the Fearsome Five , for those who watch us play , people who did not attend our games will ask how many did we score. They will not ask who won the match because of how good we were , opponents hardly stood a chance against us.” , Polo stated on Kumasi-base Fox FM.
However , the complete story of these talented group of players in the Hearts of Oak set up has never been told in the modern day.
“That is the most unfortunate thing that there is no single documentary on the Fearsome Five to remind us that at one point in time in history there was a terrific squad of Hearts of Oak players who all played for the national team.
I personally have tried to get this documentary done but up to now nothing positive have come out of it. I have gone to the GFA several times but my efforts have produced no good results” , Polo said in an interview with Fox FM in Kumasi.
” GBC were recording the games but they said the broadcasting house got burnt some time and so they lost all the recorded matches. But my point is that , we can still get some of these documentary clips from bodies like CAF.
If the GFA writes to CAF I think they will listen to them and hand them copies of those historic videos. An individual will struggle to get an attention from CAF but the GFA can get us those footages so that the generations to come will know that the generations of players that came before them did ” , the Ghana legend added.
