UEFA Champions League : Liverpool humiliated at home by Real Madrid despite Nunez brilliant goal and Mohamed Salah effort

Real Madrid Humiliate Liverpool : Liverpool were humiliated in front of their teeming home fans by Real Madrid during Tuesday’s Round of 16 first leg as the Spanish giants go back to Madrid with a 5-2 victory.

There was everything in the encounter from goalkeeper blunders to brilliant strikes in a completely thrilling heavyweight affair at Anfield.

Uruguay forward Darwin Nunez opened the scoring in the 4th minute with an amazing flick in the area that beat goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

The former Benfica attacker found space in the penalty area to connect Mohamed Salah’s clever cut-back.

Ten minutes later Salah moved from a goal assister to goal scorer himself as Courtois committed a huge blunder.

Thus Liverpool took a 2-0 lead in less than fifteen minutes. At this point many Reds would have thought that a revenge was going to be secured following their painful loss to the White Angels during the 2022 Champions League final in France.

However Vinicius Jr single-handedly inspired the 14-time champions of the competition to stage one of the greatest single-game comebacks.

The 22-year old curled a ball past his compatriot Alisson Becker in the 21st minute to make it 2-1 and in the 36th he made it 2-2 capitalizing on a blunder by Becker.

In the second half Carlo Ancelotti’s team scored thrice from their three shots on target. Eder Militao header in the 47th minute , Karim Benzema brace in the 55th and 67th minutes as Madrid clinched a 5-2 win.

The second leg takes place on 15th March in Madrid.
