The Last 11 Matches of Kotoko Analyzed : Whilst sixteen teams have contested 24 matches each in the 2022/23 betPawa Ghana Premier League season so far , Asante Kotoko and King Faisal FC have played a game less.
The Kumasi derby of Week 21 had to be rescheduled to April 5th as the National Sports Authority closed and prepared the Babayara sports stadium for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Ghana and Angola on March 23rd.
Aduana , Medeama , Bechem United and Hearts of Oak each have ten matches remaining to close the current league season ; Kotoko have 11 games more to play. This represents an advantage to Abdulai Gazale and his team in the title race.
But will this advantage of more matches count? We shall tell you.
Kotoko continue to pursue the league title this year in their bid to make it two in a row for the fist time since Maxwell Konadu (2011/12) and Didi Dramani (2011/12 and 2013/14) led them to consecutive glories.
“Yes definitely , definitely because we are working hard. You know Kotoko without a trophy there is no league and the boys they know it in their mind.
Once we are going back to the house we are going to work and then make sure that the rest of the games , we still have 11 matches to go.
If we are able to get at least wins out of that particular matches we are likely to come on top of the league and that is what we are going to work on.” , interim head coach Gazale said after Thursday’s 1-1 draw at Legon Cities.
GhanaSportsMarket.com has now analyzed the final 11 league matches of the Porcupine Warriors and delivered a final opinion.
Final 11 Matches of the League Season for Asante Kotoko :
Real Tamale United (Home) on 2nd April
King Faisal FC (Home) on 5th April
Berekum Chelsea (Away) on 14th April
Aduana FC (Home) on 21st April
Great Olympics (Away) on 23rd April
Tamale City (Home) on 30th April
Bibiani Gold Stars (Home) on 7th May
Kotoku Royals (Away) on 21st May
Karela United (Home) on 28th May
Accra Lions (Away) on 4th June
Dreams FC (Home) on 11th June
Seven home games against four away trips for the reigning champions.
The next two games ahead are crucial for Gazale and Kotoko for two main reasons.
First , Kotoko are expected by their fans to win against RTU who are undefeated in their last 7 games in all competitions and versus King Faisal which is a derby.
The second reason is that Gazale searches for his maiden wins as Kotoko interim head coach following the stalemate at Legon Cities on Thursday in his first game in charge.
He replaced Seydou Zerbo who was sacked on Monday March 27th after a home defeat against Medeama in Kumasi a day earlier and Gazale knows very well the reaction to expect from the home fans if they fail to deliver the goods and we expect Kotoko to pick at least four points from these games.
Aduana , Tamale City , Gold Stars , Karela and Dreams FC will all come to Kumasi in that order.
The Ogya Boys , big favorites in the title race this year , are the most credible opposition from this list as they storm Kumasi on April 21st with a number of former Kotoko employees Samuel Kwesi Fabin the head coach and players such as Joseph Addo , Emmanuel Gaymfi , Adom Kwame Frimpong and Sam Adams. Cracker of a soccer match.
Meanwhile Berekum Chelsea , Olympics , Kotoku Royals and Accra Lions are the away trips Kotoko will embark on. The champions are the third best team of the current league in terms of away games ; 14 points collected from 13 matches on the road and we expect them to at least register a win and some draws.
Final Opinion : Asante Kotoko still remain part of the big favorites expected to win the league this season. With their 7 home games to be played and 11 matches remaining we see them strongly challenging for the title.
