Late Thomas Obeng Asare’s Wife Cries Out for Help : It is getting to five years since the Asante Kotoko team bus accident of 12th July 2017 occurred but victims and their families continue to ask for compensation from the Porcupine Warriors.
Last two weeks , it was the former goalkeepers trainer of the club Sampson Appiah who is now incapacitated following injuries he sustained in the accident and now the wife of the late Thomas Obeng Asare has also come out calling for financial assistance.
Asare was the deputy equipment officer of the club at the time and he was the only person who lost his live from the accident around Nkawkaw as Kotoko were returning from a Ghana Premier League match against Inter Allies.
“I am pleading on all authorities of Asante Kotoko to come to my aid. Things are very difficult for us. They should be in my shoes and know how it feels to raise these children financially.” , Mrs. Portia Asare is quoted by Oyerepa Sports.
She continued :
“I decided to go to Manhyia to Otumfour to cry for help. I am very disappointed in the Kotoko officials. They cannot think of giving us not even a one cup of rice at the end of the year.
We are only living by the grace of God.” , Portia Asare added.
Meanwhile the club releases a statement on 1st May 2023 addressing the issue and it is reproduced below :
“Management have taken notice of disappointment pouring out in respect of lack of support for the victims of the accident which occurred in 2017.
Upon assuming office in 2020,Management and the Board sought to help find a solution to deal with this matter without success.
Management shall engage the Board again on the matter.
In anticipation of approval from the Board, we have started engaging representatives of the victims and will come out with a short to medium term plan to alleviate their situation in the coming days. Thank you.” , the Kotoko statement released on Sunday April 30th concluded.”
