Daniel Nii Adjei On Why Ghanaian Quartet Succeeded at TP Mazembe : Former Ghana midfielder Daniel Nii Adjei “Ga Mantse” says he and four other Ghanaian players were hugely successful at TP Mazembe because the club built their teams with much importance on experience and class.
The Ghanaian quartet of Solomon Asante , Richard Kissi Boateng , Gladson Awako and Yaw Frimpong took their football career to Dr. Congo where they help Mazembe to conquer Africa winning both the CAF Champions League and the Confederation Cup.
According to the former Asante Kotoko midfielder , that is the main reason why Mazembe came for his signature when the Porcupine Warriors refused to hand him a contract extension because he had reach the age of 30 years.
“At Asante Kotoko I remember when I wanted a new contract they told me that I am an old player now and so I was not given the new deal. But you know I went to TP Mazembe and won everything” , Daniel Nii Adjei told Kumasi-based Fox FM.
“But if you look at the we Ghanaian players that were at Mazembe (Solomon Asante , Kissi Boateng , Yaw Frimpong , Gladson Awako) we succeeded there because they believed in quality and class. They didn’t look at the ages but rather they concentrated on our quality. They did not say , oh , this player has played for too many years and so let us kick him out.”
“Currently look at Real Madrid , they keep on giving Luka Modric one year extension. They trust his experience and class. The young ones are there but even the experience players cannot run all over the pitch , the run the shown when it matters most with their experience and that is what I am talking about”
After winning three Ghana Premier League titles with Asante Kotoko , Adjei popularly known as “Ga Mantse” also won 4 league titles , one CAF Champions League and one Confederation Cup with the Congolese giants.
