Michael Akuffo on Ogum Return to Asante Kotoko : Former Asante Kotoko midfielder, Michael Akuffo has praised the life patron of the club, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for giving a long-term deal to Prosper Narteh Ogum.
Ogum, 45, has returned to the Porcupine Warriors for a second spell after leading the side to the league title in the 2021/22 season.
The former WAFA trainer has been mandated to build a strong squad for a period before focusing on winning titles.
And Akuffo who won laurels with the club believes that is the best idea to proffer by the club owner.
“Giving him the long term to build a team before competing for CAF and then going to Africa is a good thing,” he told Accra-based Radio Gold.
“I think this has been Asante Kotoko’s problem for so many years, a board will come and then after three years a different board will come and then this I think the king has heard the supporters’ plea and has come to give the work to the IMC.
“This is the best thing that Kotoko has been waiting for all these years and I’m glad that it has come and I know that this time around there no going to be pressure on the players.
“So giving the coach a free hand and giving the IMC a free hand to make sure they put a team together is the way forward for Kumasi Asante Kotoko,” he added.
Asante Kotoko on Tuesday officially opened pre-season at Beposo ahead of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season.
The Porcupine Warriors will open their Premier League campaign with a home game against Heart of Lions at the Baba Yara Stadium.
