Asante Kotoko were held by Heart of Lions on Sunday at the Babayara sports stadium during the opening match-day of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League as the game ended 0-0.

It was the first game for Ogum in his second stint as Kotoko head coach whilst Lions were playing their first league match since their relegation from the elite league in 2015.

“I think it was the final connections , when we got to the final third where we have to be calm , look at the spaces and connect with teammates there. I think we were in a rush anytime we got to the final third. Apart from that , I think we played well. Defensively we looked very compact , we were able to progress from the defence to the midfield to attack”

“And this is our first game and I think as time goes on we will find our rhythm. It was a good game for me.”

“I am okay with the players , I am satisfied. We have a blend of new and old players trying to get the game module going. To me what I saw was good of our individual players but then we can do better. It’s good , better , best and what I saw was good. I am okay with it. I don’t have any doubt about this team that as the league progresses we will get better in offence and defensive , to create more chances. So I am very confident about this team.”

“Every good team has depth in the team and as you said we have like for like players. If you look at the substitutions we did , they came , maintain the tempo and even increased the tempo. It tells you that everybody is ready to play , everybody is ready to give hundred percent plus.”

“So to me I am happy about the quality that we have in the team. All that we need to do is that the individual players be committed to the approach towards the game. Every game is a big game for Kotoko , every team that comes to play for Kotoko gives more than hundred percent and this is how it is going to be throughout the 34 games and so it is a good eye opener for the newcomers and the old guys it tells them that they need to lead the fight for victory”

“Of course they will be competition in the team. Selection of players for games will depend on what happens at the training and then the tactical approach of the opponent , the way they are coming to play based on the tactical intelligence that we gather from the opponent and then per your performance at the training and then we will know which players to select and which system or which style to play”
