FIFA Executive Council Member Amaju Pinnick says the world’s focus and attention will be on Ghana due to the forthcoming GFA Elective Congress in Tamale on Thursday, October 5, 2023.
The Ghana Football Association will go to the polls this week to elect new Executives to steer the affairs of the Association for the next four years.
Aside the position of President, delegates will elect representatives of the Premier League, Division One League with Dr. Gifty Oware Mensah going unopposed as representative of Women’s Football on the Executive Council.
The contest will spread through the 10 regions where regional delegates are expected to elect their Chairmen after which two will be elected to serve on the Executive Council.
‘’We have been monitoring all the elective congresses in Africa; we have where we picture and see everything as they unfold so Ghana is no different. We have been seeing what is going on and we are following very religiously’’ President Pinnick told the press in Accra.
‘’The focus will be in Ghana on Thursday. My other colleagues are coming. President of the Nigeria Football Federation Ibrahim Musah Gusau will be here as well. There are so many interests in Ghana Football because Ghana is one of the greatest football nations out of this continent so all of us have to put our hands together to make it greater’’ he added.
The former Vice President of the Confederation of African Football will join Director of Member Associations for Africa at FIFA, Gelson Fernandes, Silmara Sousa, Development Program Coordinator, FIFA Member Associations Africa and Ahmed Harraz, Senior MA Governance Services Manager, FIFA MA Governance for the congress on Thursday.
The Elective Congress is the first of its kind in Ghana Football since the Normalization Committee handed over power to the current administration led by Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku.
