Ghana Win 2024 Amputee AFCON: Ghana’s amputee football team, the Black Challenge, won the 2024 Amputee Africa Cup of Nations after beating Morocco 2-1 in the final hosted in Cairo on Monday.
Ghana went behind early in the first half, but a spirited comeback in the second half and extra time ensured the victory. The win means that they have successfully defended the trophy having won the previous edition in 2021.
They have recorded a double over Morocco in the past year, having recorded the same scoreline against them in September 2023 to clinch the maiden edition of the African Para Games.
“We feel very proud. The God we trusted made it happen. We’re champions in Africa for the third time in the space of two years.
Despite the challenges we went through, we did it. It is a massive motivation to everybody that you might not have the support you need but you can go beyond the odds and make it happen,” Stephen Richard Obeng, head coach of Black Challenge told 3Sports after the victory.
The team is expected to return to Ghana on Tuesday morning. They have booked a place at the Amputee World Cup set to take place in 2026.
