Black Queens Arrive in Ghana after 4-0 Japan Friendly Defeat

Ghana’s Black Queens have arrived back in Accra following their international friendly, dubbed the MS&AD Cup 2024, played against Japan.

The Asians imposed a 4-0 defeat against the Ghana national women’s football team on July 14th, with all four goals scored in the second half.

Players and technical team members led by Nora Häuptle and Ghana Football Association (GFA) officials arrived Monday afternoon.

The team departed their base in Kanazawa, Japan, for the Naritao International Airport on Sunday without the likes of Grace Asantewaa, Linda Eshun and Princess Marfo who had already left for Mexico, Iceland and Honolulu, USA respectively to rejoin their parent clubs.

The Black Queens team are on a rebuilding process after missing out on a couple of continental outings and have qualified for the next edition of the Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) slated for July 2025.

The friendly with Japan was a good test for the Black Queens and gave the Technical team a good idea of the level of the team and areas that require further strengthening.

The GFA remains committed to continuing to invest in building the depth and quality of the team ahead of future assignments in line with the Women’s Football Strategy of the Association.
