Match Report – Nigeria 3 Ghana 1: Black Galaxies battered as Didi Dramani is taught hard lessons

The Nigeria CHAN team were too powerful for the Black Galaxies at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium

Nigeria 3 Ghana 1 CHAN Match Report: Mas-Ud Didi Dramani must be preparing to answer questions regarding his blanket ban on 2024-25 Ghana Premier League top scorer Faisal Charwetey from the two African Nations Championship qualifiers against Nigerians after Ghana’s historic football rivals humiliated the Black Galaxies 3-1 to pick their CHAN 2024 ticket on Saturday at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

The decision to leave out the most lethal offensive player in the country’s top-flight this season makes little sense especially as the Black Galaxies fired blank in the home encounter.

The composed Nigerians, who have qualified for the next CHAN with an aggregate score of 3-1, opened the scoring in the 19th minute when a clipped ball over the Ghanaian backline saw Ismaila Sodiq ran cleverly to squirm under Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare.

Nduka Junior then pounced on a loose ball to make it 2-0 for Nigeria in the 22nd before Isaac Saviour dispossessed Abdulai Nurudeen to round off Asare for Nigeria’s third of the afternoon.

Dramani’s blinkered faith in midfielder Issah Yakubu backfired with the former Asante Kotoko and current Basake Holy Stars man failing to make any significant contribution across the two legs. He struggled in the first leg stalemate in Accra for majority of the game before Didi got fed up and took him off in the second half.

On Saturday, Yakubu as well as Medeama duo Manuel Mantey, and Nurudeen were overran by the powerful Nigeria midfielders as disjointed Black Galaxies were subjected to misery in a barnstorming first 25 minutes from the hosts.

The rampant Nigeria started on the front foot, dominating possession and creating the game’s finest scoring chances. After 25 minutes, it was clear the Ghana CHAN team were far off from the high level of the home side who put up a remarkable performance to remember.

Ghana vs Nigeria have produced several classics across all national teams and Saturday’s will surely rank high.
