Pep Guardiola Hails Savinho: Pep Guardiola believes Savinho has started to settle and for that matter, Man City are now going to benefit fully from the Brazilian’s impactful contributions.
The 20-year-old, who racked up a goal and assist in the 2-0 away win at Leicester City, was involved in three goals in the 4-1 masterclass over West Ham United on Saturday.
One of such involvements was the own goal by Vladimir Coufal in the 10th-minute before providing two more assists for both Erling Haaland’s goals.
The 20-year-old has shown his best form in the past few weeks and his boss thinks it is because he is not overthinking situations.
“I think he’s clean in his mind,” said Guardiola.
“He doesn’t think too much in his head. When you are many years here, players think they deserve something special for what they have done.
“That is a big mistake. You have to prove it again and again. Savinho has everything to win and prove.
“Having old fashioned football with left foot on the left and right on the right, these kinds of crosses help the kind of striker we have.
“The second goal at Leicester and the second goal today. He has a lot to improve, he is not aggressive enough without the ball, but right now he has something special to help the team.
“His goal was lucky, but the two assists were brilliant. I am so happy for him, and he deserves to play.”
Guardiola was also quizzed on whether he felt his team were getting back to their usual best following City’s back-to-back victories in the Premier League that has seen them scored six times and conceded just once.
However, the Spaniard believes his side are a long way from being back to the levels of previous campaigns.
“I am so happy and will sleep better until the next game. but [the journalist in the press conference] asked me if the old City were back?” he said.
“No. It’s not that level. It’s not because we lose it’s a disaster and today was incredible.
“We played much better against Everton than today and dropped points. I am happy because Savinho made incredible actions,
“Erling scored two more goals, and the people run. If you ask me if the team are playing like the last years? Absolutely not.”
