Minimum Wages for Players : There will be minimum wages for Professional footballers in Ghana starting from the 2023/24 season , the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced.
Ghana is among the least paying destinations for professional footballers in Africa but starting next season , both professional male and female footballers will possibly enjoy salary improvement when the policy is implemented by the GFA.
The practice of minimum wages for players is already existing in many African countries including Nigeria and Cameroon.
“Beyond the introduction of the standard player contract , we have also been discussing the introduction of minimum wages for professional players in the country ” GFA President Kurt Okraku said at Dinner with the Legends event in Accra last Saturday.
“Again in my visit to the PFAG , we discussed this policy. This policy will go through the internal process and God willing by next season we should introduce minimum player salaries for professional players in this country” Kurt Okraku added.
