Hearts of Oak Defeat Kotoko to lift President's Cup

Hearts of Oak Defeat Kotoko to lift President’s Cup : Hearts of Oak put their managerial troubles behind them to defeat arch rivals Asante Kotoko by 1-0 during a Week 20 encounter of the 2022/23 betPawa Ghana Premier League as former WAFA center-back Konadu Yiadom made the difference.

The lanky defender jumped highest in the Kotoko area to head home Linda Mtange’s well taken free-kick for the only goal of the game in the 56th minute.

The match also doubled as the 2023 GHALCA President’s Cup.

There were plenty of attacking play from both teams as Hearts of Oak had the first real opportunity to score but Benjamin York failed to make it count in the 4th minute.

In the next minute , Steven Mukwala was presented with a glorious chance but in one-on-one situation against Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Richmond Ayi , the Uganda striker blasted his effort over the bar.

Cameroon attacker Dieudonne Albert had only Ibrahim Danlad to beat but he shot the ball into the goalkeeper in the 7th minute.

Mukwala who was wasteful on the afternoon hit the Hearts of Oak cross bar in the 84th minute before his penalty appeal in the 93rd minute was rejected by referee Jacob Aduntera after Dennis Korsah appeared to have impeded the Uganda attacker in the box.

Richmond Lamptey , Enock Morrison made several attempts to score but they lacked the required precision to put the ball at the back of the net.

The win takes Hearts of Oak to 4th position on the league table with 31 points in 20 games whilst Kotoko (31 points) drop to 5th place on the standings.
