Seydou Zerbo’s Future in Kumasi : The future of Asante Kotoko head coach Seydou Zerbo is uncertain following the Porcupine Warriors’ latest defeat against arch rivals Hearts of Oak on Sunday. It was the seventh loss of the season in all competitions for the reigning Ghana champions.
The Phobians claimed a 1-0 win to move above Kotoko on the Ghana Premier League standings after 20 matches.
Are they going to stick with Zerbo or it is time for a new technical direction?
That is the decision the Nana Yaw Amponsah-led Kotoko management has to make in the present time as many fans call for the sacking of the former RC Kadiogo trainer.
Zerbo has already failed to achieve two of his targets this season ; the failure to reach the group stages of the CAF Champions League and the MTN FA Cup elimination at the Round of 16.
Sacking Zerbo means the club would have added onto the coaching casualties under the Nana Yaw era in less than two years. Maxwell Konadu , Mariano Barreto , Johnson Smith , Prosper Ogum Narteh have all come and gone.
Zerbo signed a 12-month contract to become Kotoko head coach in August 2022. Per the contract terms the club has the right to sack him by giving a 14-day notice prior , without paying any compensation , if he fails to record a winning result in four official matches.
So far this season , the team has not failed to produce a win in four official games.
However in order to sack Zerbo immediately , the club has to pay him a compensation of three months salary (9,000 USD in total which is currently equivalent to 114 , 000 Ghana Cedis).
