Kumasi Babayara the Citadel of Ghana Football

Kumasi Babayara the Citadel of Ghana Football

Kumasi Babayara the Citadel of Ghana Football : Without a shred of doubt , the Babayara Sports Stadium is the citadel of Ghana football and the Angola game is yet another justification.

Currently there is no better place to stage important Ghana games than the national stadium in Kumasi. The 6-1 spanking of Egypt on 13th October 2013 , the 0-0 World Cup Play-Off draw against Nigeria on 25th March 2022 come to mind.

The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification match against the Palancas Negras was played on a weekday ; Thursday which is a working day but that did not stop the near 30 000 people from storming the stadium to watch the Black Stars play.

Angola may have been very organized and compact for 90 minutes as Thomas Partey , Inaki Williams , Kamaldeen Sulemana , Mohammed Kudus and co struggled to breach the goal of Adilson Cipriano Da Cruz , but in the end Antoine Semenyo’s 94th minute winner ensured near 30 000 fans go back to their homes as happy people.

Local club football is suffering low stadium attendance at the moment but it is clear that the appeal of the Black Stars is something out of imagination.

This is the national team. Chris Hughton asked the Kumasi fans to come out in their numbers to support the team against Angola and they responded in fantastic manner.

The team now travel to Luanda for the reverse fixture on March 27th. Ghana lead the Group E standings with 7 points ; three more points than Angola and Central Africa Republic.
