“It’s not all about goals. He makes a lot of runs that benefit other players” – Chris Hughton backs misfiring striker Inaki Williams

Hughton Defends Misfiring Inaki Williams : Ghana head coach Chris Hughton has backed misfiring Black Stars attacker Inaki Williams saying that “it’s not all about goals” ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification match against Angola on Monday.

Ghana take on Angola in Luanda for their Match-Day Four fixture of the AFCON qualification series and Hughton has talked about the Athletic Bilbao striker who is yet to score his maiden Ghana goal in seven national-team matches.

“It’s very much part and parcel of the game. What we know in Inaki is that he is a very good player, playing in a good team in a good League. I think with somebody like Inaki it’s not all about goals.” , Hughton said ahead of the Angola clash on Monday at 16 : 00 GMT.

“He plays consistently for his team. But I think it’s his contribution in the game; he is a player that makes a lot of runs. He stretches the play a bit and sometimes it benefits other players.

So I think as regards his goal scoring with us and the Black Stars, it will come but sometimes it doesn’t come as quick as what you want.

What is more important for us is his contribution in the game and for the team that is the most important thing.” , the Ghana coach added.

Ghana lead Group E with 7 points in 3 games played whilst Angola and Central African Republic are tied on 4 points each.
