Ireland coach has shown video of Henry’s memorable hand ball to his players ahead of Euro qualifier against France tonight

Ireland vs France Tonight : Before challenging the Blues of France this Monday evening at the Aviva Stadium during the second match of the qualifying series for Euro 2024, Ireland manager Stephen Kenny showed his players a video of the highlights of Ireland vs France 2010 World Cup qualifier.

That qualifier played on 18th November , 2009 at the Stade de France saw Thiery Henry clearly handle the ball twice in the build-up of William Gallas’ 103rd minute equalizer as the game ended 1-1.

The Gallas equalizer qualified France for South Africa 2010 and deprived Republic of Ireland a chance to play at the 2010 World Cup.

Ireland then officially requested for them the said match to be replayed but FIFA turned down their appeal. Ireland did not stop there is their quest to get justice. They pursued legal action against the global soccer body and finally they received  5 million Euros as settlement.

In order to boos the moral of his players ahead of the Monday’s home match against the likes of Kylian Mbappe , Kingsley Coman , Griezmann and co , head coach Kenny showed his players the historic video.

“The players have seen the images and are now aware of the whole story because some are young. There is a great story in these meetings, some results were exceptional and we must be inspired by them.” , he told the Sun.

France thrashed the Netherlands by 4-0 in their opening qualification match whilst Ireland defeated Latvia by 3-2.
