Celta defender Joseph Aidoo excels in his first starting appearance for the Black Stars in over a year

Joseph Aidoo Against Angola in Luanda : Ghana held Angola in Luanda at the Estadio 11 de Novembro during Match-Day Four of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification series and Celta Vigo defender Joseph Aidoo put in a mammoth performance at the back on Monday.

Osman Bukari came off the bench to score an important equalizer for the Black Stars in the 72nd minute after Lucas Joao put Angola ahead from the spot in the 51st.

Aidoo , wearing shirt number 15 for Ghana , was handed a big opportunity to start the match alongside Daniel Amartey following injuries to Alexander Djiku and Mohammed Salisu.

Strasbourg defender Djiku and Southampton center back Salisu were ruled out of the Luanda clash after the 1-0 win against the Palancas Negras in Kumasi on March 23rd.

Whilst Djiku lasted 87 minutes before going out injured at the Babayara stadium , Salisu was not part of the match-day squad at all.

In their absence , the 27-year old La Liga-based center back did an excellent job for the Ghana national team as the Black Stars picked a vital away point.

Aidoo made several blocks and clearances to stop dangerous cut-backs and crosses from troublesome Angola wingers Gilberto and Helder Costa.

The Celta man was one of the top performers on the Ghana team.

It was his first start for the Black Stars in over a year since his last starting appearance for Ghana on 11th November , 2021 during a World Cup qualifying match against Ethiopia in South Africa.
