Full Time – Ghana 1 Algeria 0 : Fatawu Issahaku on target again as Black Meteors qualify for 2023 CAF U23 AFCON

Black Meteors 1 Algeria 0 Match Report on 28th March : The Ghana U23 national men’s football team defeated their Algerian counterparts by 1-0 on Tuesday at the Babayara sports stadium as Abdul Fatawu Issahaku scored the only goal of the game.

With a 2-1 aggregate success , the Black Meteors thus qualify to the finals tournament of the 2023 CAF U23 Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in Morocco later this year.

The Sporting CP prodigy headed home the winning goal in the 13th minute as he rose at the far post to connect Ernest Nuamah Appiah’s excellent cross from the left for his back to back goals against the North Africans.

Head coach of the Ghana Olympic team Ibrahim Tanko set up his team in a 4-2-1-3 formation.

Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Ibrahim Danlad kept his number one role , Aaron Esssel at right back with Olympics winger Samuel Abbey-Ashie Quaye deployed as a left back.

Alex Opoku Sarfo and David Oppong Afrane were the center backs whilst Accra Lions man Dominic Nsobila and Emmanuel Essiem started as the two central midfielders.

In attack , Daniel Afriyie Barnieh led up front as skipper of the side and he was surrounded by playmaker Abdul Fatawau Issahaku on the right , Ernest Nuamah Appiah on the left and the number ten was Salifu Abass Samari of Accra Lions.

The Black Meteors dominated the Fennec Foxes and should have won the game with more goals.

Former Hearts of Oak attacker Afriyie Barnieh should have done better with his 15th minute chance after receiving a clever pass from Fatawu Issahaku.

In the 39th minute Algeria moved forward and had a serious attempt at goal but Danlad Ibrahim made a great save to tip the ball over the bar for corner kick.

In the second half the chances continue to fell to the Ghana team but 1-0 would be the final scoreline.
