Ghana Among Favorites to win 203 U23 AFCON : The eight teams to contest the fourth edition of the CAF U23 Africa Cup of Nations have been confirmed following the completion of second leg matches of the final qualifying round on Tuesday.
The Black Meteors of Ghana will take part in the tournament finals in Morocco later this year after recording a 2-1 aggregate win over the Fennec Foxes of Algeria.
Ghana drew 1-1 away in Annaba on Friday March 24th before winning the second leg in Kumasi on Tuesday by 1-0 thanks to Abdul Fatawu Issahaku single goal at the Babayara stadium.
The Ghana Olympic team are part of the hot favorites to win the tournament alongside 2019 winners Egypt and host team Morocco.
Here are all the qualified teams :
1.Morocco (hosts) – This will be their second appearance in the U23 AFCON tournament after their first one in 2011.
2. Egypt – The Egyptians have played at the U23 AFCON three times (in 2011, 2015 and 2019). This will be their fourth appearance.
3.Congo – This is their debut qualification to the tournament finals.
4.Gabon – This will be their second appearance in the U23 AFCON tournament after their first one in 2011.
5.Ghana – This will be the second appearance of the Black Meteors in the U23 AFCON tournament after their first one in 2019 where they finished 4th.
6.Guinea – This is their debut qualification to the tournament finals.
7.Mali – This will be their third appearance in the U23 AFCON tournament after the ones in 2015 and 2019.
8.Niger – This is their debut qualification to the tournament finals.
The tournament takes place in Morocco from 24th June to 8th July , 2023.
