Bayern Player Suffers Racist Abuse After City Defeat : Bayern Munich have condemned racist abuse aimed at defender Dayot Upamecano on social media after 3-0 defeat at Manchester City in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday.
Rodri , Bernado Silva and Erling Haaland scored the goals for the Cityzens as the team of Pep Guardiola reigned supreme yesterday at the Etihad Stadium.
The club issued their support for Dayot Upamecano after the defender was racially abused on social media following the club’s 3-0 loss by Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-final first leg on Tuesday.
The French center-back gifted City the second goal in the 70th minute after he was dispossessed by Jack Grealish.
The France international was subjected to racist abuse on Instagram after the game, which Bayern immediately condemned.
Commenting on an Instagram post from Upamecano, the club said: “All of us at FC Bayern condemn racism in the strongest possible terms!
“The entire club stands behind you, Upa!”
This comes after CBS pundits Thierry Henry and Micah Richards launched an impassioned defence of Romelu Lukaku after the striker was controversially sent off for responding to racist abuse during Inter Milan’s 1-1 draw with Juventus on April 4.
Bayern are next in action against Hoffenheim this Saturday in the Bundesliga before taking on City in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final at the Allianz Arena on April 19.
