Toulouse Humiliate Nantes to 2023 Win Coupe de France : It only took half an hour for Toulouse to seal the fate of a final to which FC Nantes never seemed ready as Philippe Montanier’s men won by 5-1 and clinched the Coupe de France for the first time in 66 years.
The Goals : Blas (74th) for the Canaries // Costa (4th and 10th), Dallinga (23rd and 31st) and Aboukhlal (79th) for the Violets
If the pre-match had clearly tipped the scales in favor of Nantes, they will learn the hard way that a Coupe de France final is not only played in the stands.
And the hopes of the Bretons were very quickly dashed, in a game resembling more of an opposition between professionals and U19 than between a Toulouse team twelfth in Ligue 1 and the Canaries sixteenth.
It only took four minutes and a good set piece from Branco van den Boomen to launch the purple machine. On a corner from the Dutchman, the young Logan Costa jumps higher than a hesitant Nantes defense and already open the scoring in the 4th minute.
The Toulouse central defender then offers himself a double on a new set piece, by heading a cross from Stijn Spierings as Costa made it 2-0 in the 10th.
While the Toulouse supporters began to sing “We are going to win the Coupe de France”, the people of Nantes came to try their luck for the first time in the 13th and 18th minutes, without success.
Before sinking permanently. On a long ball from Gabriel Suazo, Thijs Dallinga goes against and manages to take the ball before Jean-Charles Castelletto and went ahead to make it 3-0 in the 23rd minute.
To be honest Toulouse were by far the better side in the Cup final and the score line is a true reflection of the game.
Thijs Dallinga also scored twice in less than ten minutes by taking a shot from Farès Chaïbi pushed back by Lafont in his feet in the 31st as Toulouse run riot.
Ludovic Blas pulled a goal back for Nantes in the 75th minute but Morocco forward Zakaria Aboukhlal sealed the humiliation with his 79th minute effort as Toulouse closed the Cup final at 5-1.
