Al Ahly Defeat Simba SC 1-0 on the road on Friday night during the first leg of their 2023/24 CAF Champions League quarter-finals to take a first-leg advantage.

Egyptian midfielder Ahmed Kouka scored the only goal of the encounter in the 4th minute at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam. The goal was the first for Kouka in this prestigious competition.

The home team had 62% ball possession while the African giants saw just 38% of the ball, but that did not stop Ahly from winning the contest.

The second leg is scheduled to take place on the 5th of April at the Cairo International Stadium.

Al Ahly are the most successful club in the all-time history of the CAF Champions League with 11 titles. They have clinched the coveted trophy in the following years/seasons: 1982, 1987, 2001, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2013, 2019–20, 2020–21 and 2022–23.

Marcel Koller and his men are eyeing a second successive Champions League title as they remain undefeated in 7 games in the competition this season. They won 3 and drew 3 to top Group D and have secured an important away victory against the Tanzania side last time out.

Nadi El Shayateen El Homr have also won five of the last 7 Champions League editions. Thus they picked up the trophy in 2017, 2018, 2019/20, 2020/21, and 2022/23. Only Wydad AC have won the competition (2018/19 and 2021/22) during this period of Ahly dominance.

Al Ahly Starting Line-up Against Simba SC:

GK Oufa Shobeir

RB Mohamed Hany, CB Mohamed Abdelmomen, CB Rami Rabia, LB Ali Maloul

RM Marwan Ateya, CM Ahmed Kouka, CM Amr El Solia, LM Hussein El Shahat
