2022 CHAN Day 1 : Hosts Algeria defeat Libya in tournament opener

Algeria Defeat Libya in CHAN Opener : The CHAN team of Algeria defeated Libya by 1-0 during the opening match of the 7th edition of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) on Friday night. 

The match was played to a sold-out crowd in the new 40 000 Nelson Mandela stadium in Algiers.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino and CAF President Patrice Motsepe were among the dignitaries that attended the match.

Algeria practically dominated the entire first period but they failed to take the lead as the score remained 0-0 at the break.

In the second half Aimen Mahious opened the scoring in the 57th minute from the spot to out his team ahead.

The Libyans almost equalized in the 70th and 75 minutes. The first opportunity was pushed away by the Algerian goalkeeper. whilst the second attempt landed on the post.

Libya put more pressure on the hosts but they could not get the much needed equalizer.

The matches continue on Saturday with Mozambique and Ethiopia at 13 : 00 GMT , Dr. Congo vs Uganda at 16 : 00 GMT and Ivory Coast vs Senegal at 19 : 00 GMT.
