Annor Walker to Hearts : Hearts of Oak have thought of hiring former Great Olympics head coach Annor Walker following the sacking of Samuel Boadu last Tuesday , Ghana Sports Market can confidently report.
Boadu was fired on September 27th , two days after the Phobians drew 1-1 in a betPawa Ghana Premier League match against rivals Asante Kotoko in Kumasi.
The Phobians have appointed former Asante Kotoko deputy coach David Dickson Ocloo as new assistant coach but a substantive head coach is yet to be named.
Hearts of Oak take on AS Real Bamako in the first leg of the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup and Annor Walker has emerged as a leading candidate for the vacant head coach job of the Continental Club Masters.
The Accra-based giants are the only Ghanaian club remaining in Africa this season after Kotoko were booted out of the CAF Champions League by RC Kadiogo of Burkina Faso.
The respected Ghanaian coach is Hearts of Oak’s first choice for the head coach job but Hearts would have to deal with the Premier League newcomers FC Samartex first if they are to get the experienced trainer to lead them to Africa.
Walker , who is yet to return from the 2023 CHAN draw in Algeria , picked some memorable results against the Phobians during his impressive tenure at Great Olympics and his connection with a number of Hearts of Oak players at the Black Galaxies is something Togbe Afede and his board would love to recreate at the club level.
Analysis :
The reality is that agreeing a deal with Annor Walker and take him to Africa within five days is almost impossible even though we do not completely rule out any deal from happening.
Sources have told Ghana Sports Market that former Asante Kotoko coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum is the most likely option since he is currently unattached but the cautious Premier League winning coach is yet to decide.
