Aubameyang Comes out of Gabon Retirement : After one year, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang comes out of his international retirement. The Gabonese panther announced on Instagram on Tuesday that he was making himself available to the national team.
“Once a panther, always a panther”, stated he Chelsea player, who only played 6 Premier League matches in 2023.
Aubameyang is understood to have talked to the Panthers head coach Patrice Neveu to arrive at the decision.
At almost 34 years old, the 2015 African Footballer of the Year is back in service for his national team after meeting Gabonese President Ali Bongo a few days ago.
“A few days ago, I had the immense honor of being received by the President of the Republic of my country, specified the Gabonese, and at the same time being able to listen to the wise words that he passed on to me like a father talking to his son.”
Aubameyang had left the national team with 73 caps and 30 goals, against a backdrop of controversy after his withdrawal from the 2022 AFCON in Cameroon.
The player had tested positive for coronavirus, a few days after being in a nightclub in Dubai in full preparation, in the middle of a tense health context against the Covid-19.
Things have not gone smoothly at Chelsea for the former Barcelona striker.
On 2 September 2022, Chelsea announced the signing of Aubameyang to join the club on a two-year contract.
Barcelona confirmed the fee was €12 million (£10.3 million).[101] Aubameyang made his Chelsea debut on 6 September, after being named a starter in a 1–0 Champions League defeat to Dinamo Zagreb.
On 1 October, he made his league debut for the club and scored his first goal in a 2–1 away win against Crystal Palace. In the Champions League group stage, he scored two goals in two matches against his former club AC Milan.
However the former Arsenal captain has played very little for the Blues this season as he is linked with a possible return to the Blaugrana.
