UNPRECEDENTED ! : Mamelodi Sundowns win South Africa Premier Soccer League for the 6th consecutive time

Mamelodi Sundowns Clinch 6th Successive League Title : Mamelodi Sundowns secured the 2022/23 South Africa Premier League title on Tuesday with six more league games remaining to end the season and it is their sixth successive league success , unprecedented in the history of the competition.

Masandawana drew 0-0 at home to Cape Town City yesterday for their 60th point in 24 games this season.

Second-placed Orlando Pirates have 40 points after 24 matches played meaning even if they win all six matches remaining they will still fall short of the 60 points amassed by Rhulani Mokwena’s side.

The 2023 title is the sixth consecutive league honor for Sundowns ; 2017/18 , 2018/19 , 2019/20 , 2020/21 , 2021/22 and 2022/23. This is unprecedented.

Sundowns have now won the Premier League title a record 13 times since its inception in 1996, hold the joint record of 3 National Soccer League Championships and have won 16 league titles in total.

They are currently the most successful football club in the South African PSL era.

Mamelodi Sundowns topped their CAF Champions League group with 14 points in 6 games to reach the knockout stage.

The draw for the quarter-finals will be held on 5 April 2023.
