Medeama SC and Dreams FC have already added combined 7.5 ranking points for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) on the CAF 5-year ranking system for the 2024/25 CAF inter-club season and this is thanks to the Champions League and Confederation Cup group stage qualification of the Ghana champions and FA Cup holders respectively.
The CAF 5-year ranking system is used by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to determine the number of clubs that each member association may enter its club football competitions; the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup.
At present, those associations ranked in the top 12 may enter two teams into each of the two club competitions, while the remaining associations are limited to a single team in each competition.
For the 2023/24 season , the Ghana Football Association badly found themselves at the very bottom position on the five-year ranking table (27th place with just 1 ranking point) for the 2018/19 , 2019/20 , 2020/21 , 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons. Since Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko and Ashantigold failed to reach the group stage of any CAF competition in the past few seasons , the Ghana FA did not win any ranking points.
However , following the historic qualification to the group stage of the CAF CL and CAF CC by Medeama and Dreams FC in that order , the Ghana FA have already benefited.
CAF has updated the ranking table for the 2024/25 season and the Ghana FA is currently at joint position number 17 with 7.5 ranking points alongside the Mali FA and the Zambia FA.
