Opoku Nti Runs the Rule on Danlad Ibrahim – Asare Debate : Former Asante Kotoko General Manager Opoku Nti affectionately known as “Lord of the Green Turf” has added his voice to the current debate among fans of the club regarding the Ibrahim Danlad – Frederick Asare goalkeeping competition.
Danlad , who was part of the Black Stars squad at the 2022 FIFA World Cup , has come under fire following his poor performance against Berekum Chelsea where Kotoko lost by 3-0 during a Week 26 league match.
Asare has seen more than enough playing time this season mainly due to the national team duties of Ibrahim Danlad with the Ghana Black Galaxies and Black Meteors teams.
“It is the radio people who are doing this comparison but if someone goes through the ranks to become the number one and then someone else is playing , you cannot say the one who is playing now is better than the number one.” , the Kotoko legend Opoku Nti said to Oyerepa Sports.
“I mean experience wise and everything. Danlad is U23 of Ghana goalkeeper and we all saw him play here (Ghana vs Algeria U23 AFCON Qualifier in Kumasi). You see that I am talking about.
So it is too early to start these comparisons. Sometimes you (media) do too much propaganda for some players.
I still think Danlad is better than Frederick Asare. They way he , Danlad , even starts the attack is different. Even if you have two players who are equal , there is always something to see who is better and ahead of the other.
Any goalkeeper can make mistakes but I think Danlad is more mature for now. But I am not the coach to decide who should play , it is the job of the coach.
We are all not the coach , it is the coach who makes the decision based on the training at the club. So it will be difficult for me to stand here and say this or that player should play.
But based on what I have seen and with my experience in football , I think Danlad is better than the other goalkeepers.”
Opoku Nti is largely respected at Asante Kotoko having served the Porcupine Warriors as a player , a stop gap coach and general manager and his words will surely excite Ibrahim Danlad.
