RTU Undefeated in Last 7 Matches Ahead of Kotoko Clash : Asante Kotoko will take on Real Tamale United at the Kumasi Babayara sports stadium on Sunday evening during Week 25 of the Ghana Premier League.
The interim era of Abdulai Gazale as Kotoko head coach began with an away draw at Legon Cities on Thursday as Alex Aso came off the bench to score a 70th minute equalizer for Maxwell Konadu’s side after Richard Boadu’s 15th minute opener for the Porcupine Warriors.
A Cities defender clearly handled the ball in the his penalty area and referee Dr. Imoro Osman correctly awarded the away team a penalty which was successfully converted by Boadu “Agadas”.
Kotoko thus left the El Wak stadium with a point taken ahead of their next home game against Real Tamale United (RTU) who are undefeated in their last seven matches across all competitions ; two wins and five drawn games.
In that unbeaten run , the Pride of the North have defeated Samartex by 2-1 at home in the FA Cup on February 26th and on Thursday imposed an emphatic 3-1 defeat against Accra Great Olympics.
Indeed RTU have avoided defeat against tough opposition such as Aduana FC (2-2 draw in Dormaa on March 26th ) , Berekum Chelsea (0-0 on March 19th at home ) , city rivals Tamale City (0-0 on March 12th in Tamale) and Medeama SC (1-1 on March 1st in Tamale).
The stats of their last seven outings means Real Tamale United do not often win but they hardly lose.
Following his team’s 1-1 draw at Legon Cities yesterday , Abdulai Gazale knows that RTU would be tough rivals on Sunday and said this :
“We will pick the match one by one , the next match is against RTU , we are playing at home and we cannot afford to lose that match or we cannot afford to draw again.
So we are going back to Kumasi , work hard and get the three maximum points in order to close up the gap in the league table.” , Gazale said ahead of Sunday’s clash against RTU.
In their last meeting at the Aliu Mahama stadium on 17th April , 2022 , it was RTU that won 2-1 against Prosper Narteh Ogum’s Kotoko. In fact RTU were undefeated against the champions of Ghana last season as they drew 1-1 at the Babayara stadium on 15th December 2021.
Whereas Kotoko are 6th on the 2022/23 league table with 35 points in 23 matches played , their Sunday rivals are 10th placed with 32 points collected from 24 games.
