Senegal too strong for host Qatar as Teranga Lions record Africa’s first win at the 2022 FIFA World Cup

Senegal Defeat Qatar : Senegal became the first African team to win a game at the 2022 FIFA World Cup after they defeated host Qatar during the second round of the matches of Group A.

The Teranga Lions won by 3-1 at the Al Thumama stadium in Doha on Friday afternoon thanks to goals from Boulaye Dia , Famara Diedhiou and Bamba Dieng as Ghanaian-born Muntari Muhammed scored a consolation goal for the hosts.

Dia , the Villareal striker who is on loan at Italian side Salernitana this season , put Senegal ahead in the 41st minute following some bad defending by the Qatari defence.

Famara then headed home Ismail Jacobs corner kick for the second goal of the afternoon for the African champions just three minutes into the second half. Ten minutes later Muntari , the Ghanaian who switched allegiance from Ghana to Qatar , rose highest to connect with a cross taken by Ismaeel Mohammed to make it 1-2.

However any hopes of the host to score an equalizer were dashed as Bamba Dieng consolidated Senegal’s lead with his 84th minute strike.

Senegal , without their iconic captain Sadio Mane , at the this World Cup held on to win the game by 3-1.

Senegal Starting Line – Ups :

GK Edouard Mendy

Sabaly Youssouf , Kalidou Koulibaly , Abdou Diallo , Ismail Jacobs

Opinion : Forget Ismail Elfath , Otto Addo is the bigger part of the blame. He should’ve never substituted Andre Ayew.
