2023 AFCON Qualifiers : South Africa remain winless as they are held by Liberia in Johannesburg

South Africa Held at Home by Liberia : The South African National Football Team remain without a victory in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification series as they failed to win at home against Liberia despite taking a two-goal lead.

Burnley’s 22-year old Lyle Foster did his personal best by netting twice in the 11th and 22nd minutes as Bafana Bafana took a strong 2-0 lead in the first half.

Liberia , however , staged a great comeback to equalize both goals in the second period.

First , Tonia Tisdell scored in the 68th before Mohammed Sangare broke the hearts of the South African team with a stoppage time strike to close the game at 2-2.

There are only three teams in the qualification Group K as Zimbabwe were disqualified from the competition by CAF. Morocco have already become the first team to qualify to the 2023 AFCON finals with their six points in two games played.

Liberia and South Africa have a point each. The two teams contest for the other qualification berth from the group as Bafana Bafana now travel to Monrovia for the reverse match.

Hugo Broos and the South African team are winless in two qualifying games as Morocco defeated them 2-1 in Rabat in June 2022.
