Support for Ronaldo : Former Portuguese internationals Beto , Rui Barros and Abel Xavier have all defended Cristiano Ronaldo following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan that was published via The Sun.
The three former national stars of Portugal underlined the existence of a “short memory” on the part of his critics.
“In Portugal, we have a habit of having a short memory and, in relation to Cristiano, I think that the Portuguese should be a little more thoughtful and support what is ours, the Portuguese players, the Portuguese teams and, in this case, Cristiano . We cannot have a short memory” defended Beto as quoted by A Bola.
Rui Barros on his part considered that the World Cup could be the scene of the reappearance of the best version of CR7.
“Ronaldo, throughout these years, stood out with the criticism, it is what he has been doing and what is happening now, so it is natural that he reaches the World Cup and becomes ‘Ronaldo’ again, silences the critics even more and score goals, which is what he knows how to do best”, pointed out by the former striker.
“Cristiano Ronaldo’s moment in relation to the club he represents is one thing, now he has another locker room that was created, built for a certain purpose. Players will focus as much as possible on this goal, which involves overcoming adversity and this can only be done with a good environment. If he’s good, if he scores, if he matches, it’s normal that he’s still an attractive player for the market» Abel Xavier opined, for his part.
Ghana and Portugal lock horns on November 24th for their Group H opener at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The two teams met at the 2014 Mundial in Brazil with Portugal claiming a 2-1 win thanks to an 80th minute winner by Cristiano Ronaldo.
