World Cup Day Six Wrap : Iran stun Wales , Senegal defeat host Qatar as Valencia scores his third goal

World Cup Day Six Wrap : Four matches were played during Day Six at the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Friday and GhanaSportsMarket.com provides the summary of what was another exciting day in Qatar.

After suffering a 6-2 humiliation against England , Iran bounced back to defeat Wales by 2-0 at the Ahmad bin Ali stadium in Al Rayyan with late strikes from Cheshmi Roozbeh in the 90+ 8 minute and Rezaeian Ramin in the 90+11 minute.

Porto striker Mehdi Taremi who scored twice against the Three Lions provided the assist for Ramin to score Iran’s second goal.

Wales goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey was sent off in the in the 86th minute after committing a bad foul on an opponent. Referee Mario Escobar initially brandished a yellow card but after a VAR review the yellow card was withdrawn and a straight red card shown instead.

Meanwhile in the other Group B match between England and USA in Al Khor , it ended in a drab stalemate.

England still lead the group on 4 points whilst Iran are now second on 3 points. USA and Wales follow in that order.

In Group A , Senegal defeated host team Qatar by 3-1 in Doha before Netherlands and Ecuador drew 1-1 in Al Rayyan. The victory of the Teranga Lions is the first for any African team at the tournament after Morocco , Tunisia , Cameroon and Ghana all failed to win their first matches.

Enner Valencia scored his third goal of the tournament and continues to lead the top scorers chart at the World Cup. Valencia netted in the 49th minute to cancel out Cody Gakpo’s 6th minute opener for Holland.

The Dutch team are joint top of the group alongside Ecuador on 4 points each after 2 games played. Senegal are third and Qatar who are last on the standings have been eliminated from the tournament despite having a game to play.
