Infantino for 3rd Term : FIFA President Gianni Infantino will go unopposed to be re-elected for a third term as head of global football after no other persons fronted up.
The 52-year old Infantino assumed the position when he succeeded Sepp Blatter in 2016 following the 2015 FIFA scandal that shocked the world.
FIFA released a statement on Thursday :
“Following the call for election issued by the FIFA Council on 30 March 2022, FIFA’s member associations have proposed, in due time and form, the following candidate for the presidential election due to take place at the 73rd FIFA Congress in Kigali, Rwanda, on 16 March 2023: No other candidature has been submitted.”
In 2019 the former General Secretary of UEFA won his first presidential elections to be FIFA boss till 2023 and now he is set to win another third without having to compete against any other candidates.
The 2022 FIFA World Cup kicks off on Sunday and it will the the second World Cup competition under the era of Infantino as FIFA president.
The elections will take place in March 2023 in Rwanda.
