Argentina win 2022 FIFA World Cup : Argentina defeated France 4-2 on penalties to win the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 on Sunday afternoon following in a six-goal thriller in 120 minutes at the Lusail Iconic stadium.

Sevilla defender Gonzalo Montiel successfully converted Argentina’s fourth kick to win the shootouts for La Albiceleste. Substitute Kingsley Koman and Aurelien Tchouameni failed to score their kicks for France.

Lionel Messi put his team ahead with a controversial penalty in the 23rd minute before Angel Di Maria made it 2-0 in the 36th.

France coach Didier Deschamps made quick changes by introducing Marcus Thuram and Kolo Muani in the 41st minute for Olivier Giroud and Ousmane Dembele respectively. In the 71st minute Deschamps brought on Koman and Eduardo Camavinga and the impact was instant.

Kylian Mbappe scored two quick-fire goals to bring France on level terms with Argentina. The PSG prodigy converted a penalty in the 80th minute before firing the equalizer a minute later with a terrific acrobatic effort after he was released by Thuram with a perfect lob in the area.

The defending champions refused to disappoint in the final and took the final into extra time. However Argentina struck again through Messi in the 108th minute and once again his PSG teammate Mbappe responded from the spot ten minutes later to realize a historic hat trick in the World Cup final.

The final score line remained 3-3 after 120 minutes and penalty shootout followed. Mbappe successfully took the first kick of the shootout. Messi did same for Argentina.

Goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez – who produced a crucial save in the 120th minute to stop Kolo Muani’s shot – was key for the South Americans as he denied two French players ; Koman and Tchouameni.

And at last Lionel Messi has become a World Cup winner aged 35.
