Niger Eliminate Ghana : Niger emphatically defeated Ghana by 2-0 on Saturday night to reach their first ever semi-final at the African Nations Championship.

The Menas won the quarter-final tie with goals from attacker Imarana Seyni and striker Soumana Hainikoye as Ghana managed a single shot on target in 90 minutes.

The Nigeriens managed by coach Doula Harouna will now play against the host country Algeria in the semi-finals on January 31, 2023.

The first Nigerien goal came in the 11th minute of play through Seyni following a majestic cross from Adamou Ibrahim Djibo.

After the break, the charges of Harouna Doula Gabde continued their offensive game which yielded the second goal scored by Boubacar Soumana Hainikoye in the 49th minute.

Despite the multiple chances created by Annor Walker’s side, Niger ensured their goal would not be breached.

Niger President Mohamed Bazoum called the players on the phone to congratulate them after their historic feat.

“Great performance by Mena who qualified with panache for the semi-finals against Ghana.

“Exceptional course full of desire and fighting spirit while waiting for the confrontation with the host country.

Congratulations to the players, the coach, the technical staff and the many supporters” wrote the President of the Republic on his tweeter account, in addition to the phone call.
