Al Ahly Defeat Coton Sport in Cairo

Al Ahly Defeat Coton Sport in Cairo : African giants Al Ahly clinched their first victory of the 2022/23 CAF Champions League group stage campaign following their 3-0 success over Coton Sport of Cameroon on Saturday.

The match was originally scheduled to be played on 10 or 11 February 2023 but it was rescheduled to 4 March 2023 due to the Red Devils’ participation in the 2022 FIFA Club World Cup in Morocco.

Mohamed Sherif put the home team ahead in the first minute at the Al Salam stadium in Cairo. Algeria international Ahmed Kendouci made it 2-0 in the 40th minute before substitute Khalil Raafat sealed the win with his stoppage time effort.

Despite the win Ahly are still third on the Group B standings after three rounds of matches with 4 points.

South African side Mamelodi Sundowns lead with 7 points whilst Al-Hilal Omdurman are second on 6 points.

The most successful club of the CAF Champions League (10 titles won) now travel to Pretoria to take on Sundowns during match-day four on March 11th. The South African team drew 2-2 against Ahly in the previous fixture.

There are four groups and only two teams from each group will advance to the knockout round.
