Super Clash

Super  Clash : Clashes between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko are special since the start of the Ghana Premier League in 1958.

The domestic and continental successes and the huge fanbases of the two biggest football clubs in the country means their matches are always appealing.

But these are not the only things that make Hearts – Kotoko matches special. The fixture has seen some of the greatest football talents the country has ever seen.

Hearts of Oak big names such as Emmanuel Armah “Senegal” , Shomo Quaye , Emmanuel Osei Kuffour , Ishamel Addo , Amankwah Mireku , Bernard Don Bortey , Charles Taylor , Jacob Nettey made the Super Clash huge.

On the part of Kotoko one can mention iconic names like Opoku Nti , Stephen Oduro , Opoku Afriyie , Karim Abdul Razak “Golden Boy” , Eric Bekoe , Ahmed Toure and several other top players.

Both teams have seen big changes to their squad since the start of this season.

For Kotoko the biggest departure was Thiery Franck Etouga Mbella the Cameroonian attacker who netted 21 goals in his maiden season with the Porcupine Warriors. One of those goals came from the spot against Hearts of Oak at the Babayara stadium as Kotoko claimed a 1-0 win and proceeded to win the league title.

Afriyie Barnieh was the star attraction at Hearts of Oak for the past seasons before he moved abroad in January this year.

The appeal of the fixture definitely suffers if both clubs cannot keep their biggest talents.
