Andre Ayew Has Suffered a Knee Injury in Angola Match : Ghana captain Andre Ayew has been ruled out of Monday’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification match against Angola in Luanda , the Ghana Football Association has announced.
Ayew did not feature against the Palancas Negras last Thursday in the Match-Day Three encounter as Antoine Semenyo came off the bench to score a 94th minute winner for Ghana at the Babayara sports stadium.
After the match Chris Hughton said he decided against playing the most capped player in the current Black Stars team as he handed starting places to Kamaldeen Sulemana , Jordan Ayew , Mohammed Kudus and Inaki Williams up front.
“As a head coach, you have to make difficult decisions. You know the quality that Andre possesses, but you also know the quality of the rest of the squad,” Hughton said after the match.
“Ultimately, it was my choice not to play him, but that doesn’t reflect on his abilities as a player. He remains a valuable member of the team.”
However in a GFA statement on Saturday , it has been revealed the Nottingham Forest midfielder suffered a knee injury on Thursday.
“Ghana captain Andre Ayew has been ruled out of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola after sustaining a knee injury on Thursday.
