Seydou Zerbo Compensation After Kotoko Sacking : The tenure of Seydou Zerbo as head coach of Asante Kotoko ended on Monday March 27th , 2023 after the Porcupine Warriors parted ways with the Burkinabe trainer following a Ghana Premier League home defeat against Medeama SC on Sunday.
It was the eighth loss of the season in all competitions for the reigning Ghana champions under the technical direction of Mr. Zerbo who succeeded Prosper Narteh Ogum in August 2022.
Zerbo signed a 12-month contract to become Kotoko head coach on 2nd August , 2022.
Per the contract terms as cited by GhanaSportsMarket.com , the club has the right to sack Zerbo by giving a 14-day notice prior , without paying any compensation , if he fails to record a winning result in four official matches.
So far this season , the team has not failed to produce a win in four successive official games under the departed head coach meaning Kotoko Chief Executive Officer Nana Yaw Amponsah and his management team could not activate this clause of the agreement.
Since the club decided to end the contractual agreement with the Burkina Faso national on Monday , Zerbo is entitled to a compensation equal to his three months salary.
Sources have told GhanaSportsMarket.com the coach was approached regarding his future at the Kumasi-based side following the Medeama home reverse last Sunday. Zerbo agreed to leave the team immediately once he gets his contractual compensation.
The head coach was on a 3 , 000 USD monthly salary at Kotoko meaning the overall compensation that has to be paid to him is 9 , 000 USD which is equivalent to 108 , 900 New Ghana Cedis.
It is also interesting to note that Zerbo’s contract ends in five months time but since the performance of the team and the quality of coaching is questioned , the club decided to pay the compensation in order to immediately look for a new technical direction.
This is what led to the rapid decision taken by Nana Yaw Amponsah and his team on Monday.
