Al Hilal 5 Asante Kotoko 0 : Sudan giants humiliate Ghana champions in pre-season friendly

Sudan giants Al Hilal humiliated Asante Kotoko by 5-0 during an international pre-season friendly match played at the Al Hilal stadium on Friday night.

Al Hilal defeated the Ghana champions by 2-0 on August 23rd and continued to annihilate their the Porcupine Warriors today.

The five Hilal goals came from Makabi Lilepo who scored a free-kick brace in the 30th and 44th minutes.

Abdul Ajagun made it 3-0 in the 62nd minute, Mowafag Sedig scored the fourth of his side in the 75th before Mubarak Abdullah sealed the humiliation with five minutes from time.

Asante Kotoko , who have been poor in Sudan, boycotted initial plans to stage their pre-season in Turkey after failing to secure visas to travel to the European country.

The Ghana champions open their CAF Champions League campaign against RC Kadiogo of Burkina Faso between 9 and 11 September,  2022.

Asante Kotoko starting line up : GK Frederick Asare ; Augustine Agyapong, John Tedeku, Andrews Appau, Sherif Mohammed ; Emmanuel Sarkodie, Ernest Osei Poku, Richmond Lamptey ; Dickson Afoakwa , Stephen Amankona, Solomon Sarfo Taylor.

Goalkeeper Asare was stretchered off at the stroke of half time after hurting himself in an unsuccessful effort to save Lilepo’s free-kick.

The team managed by Burkinabe trainer Seydou Zerbo take on Zimba SC of Tanzania on Sunday.

The last time Kotoko reached the group stages of the CAF Champions League was in 2006 and they are determined to at least reach that stage in 2022/23.

Meanwhile the Ghana Premier League season commences on September 9th as the Porcupine Warriors seek to defend their crown.
