Ghana 1 Angola 0 Match Report : Chris Hughton’s era as head coach of the Black Stars of Ghana got underway with a 1-0 win over Angola in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification match against the Palancas Negras as Bournemouth attacker Antoine Semenyo came off the bench to clinch an important victory for Ghana.

Bournemouth striker Semenyo came off the bench to score an injury time winner for the Black Stars in the 94th minute at the Babayara stadium on Thursday.

Hughton did not select captain Andre Ayew in his match-day squad as Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey skippered the team to victory.

Ghana now take full control of the Group with seven points in three games played ahead of the return leg in Luanda on March 27th.

Kamaldeen Sulemana , Jordan Ayew , Inaki Williams and Partey made several goal attempts but their efforts could not breach goal of Angola who were so compact and very organized for most parts of the game.

In the second half the Ghana team continued to look for the opener but Palancas Negras goalkeeper Adilson Cipriano Da Cruz was massive in goal as he produced many big saves.

Chris Hughton made triple changes in the 68th minute.

Inaki Williams went out for Antoine Semenyo to come in ,  Salis Abdul Samed took the place of Edmund Addo whilst Joseph Paintsil replaced Jordan Ayew and it was the Bournemouth striker who smashed home the only goal of the game in the 94th minute.

The goal is the second for Semenyo for Ghana after his first one that came against Switzerland in a pre-World Cup friendly match last year.

Ghana starting formation against Angola :

GK Lawrence Ati-Zigi

Denis Odoi , Daniel Amartey , Alexander Djiku , Gideon Mensah
