Hearts of Oak Defeat Kotoku Royals with Late Caleb Winner : Hearts of Oak needed an injury time effort from center-back Caleb Amankwah to defeat a resolute Kotoku Royals side at the Accra Sports stadium on Sunday during Week 22 of the Ghana Premier League.
The former WAFA defender made the difference with a clever flick in the 96th minute as everyone thought the game was going to end at 0-0 but Caleb proved decisive.
It was playmaker Salifu Ibrahim who centered an excellent freekick into the Royals area and Caleb , just as he did against Asante Kotoko in Kumasi this season, repeated the form against the Premier League debutants.
Hearts of Oak are now undefeated in three games under the leadership of assistant coach David Ocloo since head trainer Slavko Matic was asked to step aside following supporters agitation against him.
A home victory over Kotoko was followed by an away draw at Bibiani Gold Stars before Sunday’s success against John Eduafo’s side.
Substitute Isaac Mensah failed to score with a glorious chance in the 88th minute as he blasted his effort over the bar with his left foot.
Royals were resolute for majority of the game but Caleb Amankwah broke their hearts with his 96th minute winner.
The victory takes the Phobians to 4th place on the league standings with 35 points in 22 games as they push champions Kotoko down to the 5th position.
