Holland Defeat Senegal : Netherlands defeated Senegal by 2-0 on Monday evening in the second match of the Group A at the Al Thumama Stadium in Doha.
The victory of the Dutch over The Teranga Lions means Netherlands are joint top of the group on three points plus two goals alongside Ecuador who recorded the same score line against Qatar on Sunday.
PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo found the breakthrough for the team managed by former Ajax , Bayern Munich and Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal in the 84th minute before Ajax man Davy Klaassen put the game completely beyond the Africans inside injury time.
Gakpo ran behind the Senegal defence to head home the opener from a menacing cross delivered by Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
In the 9th minute of injury time , Klaassen was at the right place at the right time to slot in his team’s second after Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy poorly parried away a shot by Memphis Depay.
Senegal now play Qatar on November 25th whilst Netherlands engage Ecuador during Round Two of Group play.
