Hughton Explains Why He Benched Dede Ayew against Angola : Chris Hughton the head coach of the Black Stars of Ghana has explained why he did not select Andre Ayew in his starting line – up against Angola in Thursday’s 1-0 win against Angola.
The captain of the Black Stars was seen on the Ghana bench even though his name did not appear on the official team sheet of the match as posted by the Ghana Football Association.
“As a head coach, you have to make difficult decisions. You know the quality that Andre possesses, but you also know the quality of the rest of the squad,” Hughton said after the match.
“Ultimately, it was my choice not to play him, but that doesn’t reflect on his abilities as a player. He remains a valuable member of the team.”
Antoine Semenyo came off the bench to score a 94th minute for Ghana as Angola proved a difficult opposition. The Bournemouth striker had replaced Inaki Williams in the 68th.
Ayew did not take part of the entire match as he remained unused substitute.
Ghana now travel to Luanda for the reverse match against the Palancas Negras on March 27th. The Black Stars lead the Group E table with seven points in three games whilst Angola and Central Africa Republic are on four points each.
